Solution: A cross-functional team was commissioned
to “assault” this problem. Two
years of data regarding engineering “rework” costs were analyzed, and root
causes were identified. The most
common root causes were determined through Pareto analysis, and solutions to
these were developed and implemented.
Result: Rework due to engineering errors declined by approximately 50% in less than one year.
